Through the diagnostic and therapeutic approach of Applied Kinesiology (AK), an individual’s structure, metabolism, and psyche can be effectively restored to equilibrium. AK primarily involves harnessing the self-healing abilities and self-correcting mechanisms inherent in our bodies and employing them for the healing process.
Applied Kinesiology, initially developed in the 1960s by American Doctor of Chiropractic George H. Goodheart, serves as an alternative medical system for diagnosis and therapy. Initially utilised mainly by chiropractors, it is now also integrated into dentistry and various other medical professions in Germany.
The Healing Process as an Onion Model
AK facilitates personalised and targeted treatments.
Envision the healing process as an onion model, systematically addressing imbalances “layer by layer.” In each phase of treatment, different “layers” of the body’s problem are addressed. Blockages are methodically released, starting with the highest priority ones. Symptoms or pain often result from processes occurring well before their manifestation. For instance, a minor ankle joint trauma might lead to a protective posture, causing muscle imbalances that affect the entire musculoskeletal system.
This means that the initial treatment may not immediately focus on the apparent symptoms but instead on addressing the underlying issues that require balance first.
Objective of Applied Kinesiology
In essence, AK aims to rebalance structure, chemistry, and psyche step by step, because a body in proper balance has no cause for pain. Progress is clearly visible through muscle function tests, which, time and again, are impressive to witness—both for the patient and for me.
- Structure: Muscles and tissue, Imbalances in the musculoskeletal system, for example due to trauma/injuries
- Metabolism/Chemistry Metabolic problems, lack of different vitamins or trace elements, exposure to environmental toxins, allergies
- Psyche Emotional causes such as stress, mental trauma
What Does Treatment with the AK Method Entail?
The method relies on manual muscle testing, enabling the identification of root causes beyond the reported symptoms. By observing changes in the neuro-muscular function, I can determine exactly where adjustments* and treatments are necessary.
Treatment then entails not only examining the painful area itself but also delving into the underlying causes of the symptoms. The body’s intricate interconnections can manifest issues in seemingly unrelated areas, as illustrated in Table 1. For instance, headaches and neck tension may trace back to the pelvic region.
