Space for Healing. Your Well-Being Is Our Focus.
Your First Visit
We would like your first appointment with us to be as stress-free as possible. Here you can read in detail what you can expect during your visit and what you should bring with you.
Arriving Stress-Free
The first visit to the chiropractor is sometimes associated with excitement and nervousness. This is understandable: you are suffering acutely from pain, possibly already chronically, or you are troubled by another long-term condition that is limiting your enjoyment of life.
Now, you have made the decision to entrust yourself to a practitioner whom you have not met in person yet. In many cases, you have already been to a number of therapists and are hoping that this time your situation will finally substantially improve. You long for a breakthrough that will bring back your quality of life.
We want you to understand exactly how we work, so we’ve put together all the important information for you here.
What Do I Need to Bring With Me?
During your first chiropractic session, you will be thoroughly examined as part of the diagnostic process. If you already have X-rays, MRIs, CT scans, or other images, we ask that you bring them with you. Laboratory findings and all types of medical reports may also be beneficial, because they help us get a fuller picture. If a specific exam is needed to clarify the diagnosis, your chiropractor will discuss that with you in detail.
Prior to your first visit, you will also be given a questionnaire that is best completed at home and sent to us, as it is most helpful when we receive it prior to your visit. If this is not possible, we ask you to come a little earlier and fill out the questionnaire directly in our waiting room. The questionnaire is intended to give us as holistic a picture as possible of your symptoms and circumstances, and will enable your therapist to prepare for the session in the best possible way.
Arriving at the Practice
Once you arrive at the practice, our reception staff will warmly welcome you. We recommend that you arrive 10 to 15 minutes before the scheduled start of your treatment, so that you feel relaxed and at ease.
If you have not sent us the questionnaire in advance, we will ask you to fill it out while seated in the waiting room.
The First Treatment and What to Expect
The first appointment primarily focuses on the holistic diagnosis. The same symptom can have various causes, which is why the objective of the initial session is to accurately understand the underlying causes of the symptoms in order to appropriately and effectively treat them.
Another important factor in the healing process is your individual physical constitution. No two bodies are exactly alike, and people have different body types with distinct capabilities and needs. Flexibility, for instance, is not solely determined by training but also by heritable factors such as body structure and the connective tissue composition. During the initial anamnesis, we gather important information about your body’s specific needs and identify exercises and techniques that will optimally support your individual constitution in the healing process.
It is, therefore, not just about comprehending the symptom itself, but also about understanding the intricate interaction between your basic constitution and learned patterns and tensions. Only based on this understanding can we collaboratively take the appropriate measures to quickly restore your body’s balance.
The physical structure also reflects emotional and mental tendencies, which we explore through the questionnaire and in conversation in order to create a complete picture. A body does not exist in isolation but rather continuously interacts with a variety of external influences and stressors. Discovering new ways to cope with these external factors often plays a significant role in the healing journey and should not be overlooked.
Detailed Description of the First Session
During the treatment session, you will have 30-40 minutes with your chiropractor to identify the origins of your problems and determine together the best course of action for your recovery. In addition to a comprehensive consultation and thorough physical examination, you will also receive your first treatment during the initial visit. A plan that outlines concrete steps will provide you with an initial framework for your personal healing journey.
The first appointment is divided into four main parts:
- In-Depth Conversation
This is arguably the most crucial part. We will sit down with you and attentively listen. Together, we will go through the questionnaire and address any questions you may have. - Thorough Physical Examination
We will move to the treatment table to assess your foundational constitution, detect visible patterns and tensions, and gain a more precise understanding of your individual symptomatology. The chiropractor tries to get a sense of how the themes discussed during the conversation manifest on a physical level. - Diagnosis
The chiropractor will provide an initial diagnosis. This will involve explaining the observed relationships thus far, sharing their assessment of the underlying issue, and presenting an individualised treatment plan.
It is important to us that you truly understand your symptoms and how to move from the point you are at to greater health, freedom from pain, and improved mobility. To ensure this, your chiropractor will outline a plan that will give you an understanding of the number of treatments needed and an estimate of the time frame in which you can expect significant improvement. The plan will also suggest additional measures that are appropriate to speed up your healing process. - Treatment
The chiropractor will perform an initial treatment.
