Help With Pain

Effective Help for Greater Freedom of Movement and Well-Being

How does chiropractic help with pain?

To answer this question, we should first ask ourselves: where does the pain in our back, neck, head or arms and legs come from in the first place?

Acute pain

Imagine injuring your lower back while lifting something heavy. You feel a sudden pain, you can no longer stand up straight without difficulty and you find it hard to breathe.

In this case, you have most likely suffered a muscle strain, a joint blockage or acute irritation of the joints in your lower back. Other structures that often cause pain in this area are fascia and intervertebral discs. During your first visit, your chiropractor will examine you carefully and then discuss with you which of these structures is causing your pain.

Subsequent problems often result from posture adjustments that many people adopt in order to keep the pain at bay or to avoid putting stress on an affected area. Muscles and the spinal joints that they compress can then cause new problems – not only in the immediate vicinity of the injury, but also in other parts of the body, sometimes in areas far removed from the actual issue.

During treatment, our primary focus is on addressing the acute injury and facilitating the healing process to the fullest extent possible. However, we also maintain a holistic approach and continuously monitor your entire body to prevent any imbalance from transferring to other areas.

Resolving “Pain Swings”

Pain that starts slowly and then consolidates over time usually has no clearly localised cause. The root often lies in our everyday life. For example, you may be sitting on an unsuitable chair at work, using a pillow that is too high or too low in bed or are constantly putting unfavourable strain on yourself during sport. There are countless minor and major situations in everyday life that can escalate into a problem that causes pain.

Often the pain does not occur in the areas that have been overloaded: Increased muscle tension, tension in the fascia and spinal joints that are pressed against each other mean that other areas of the body try to compensate for the unbalanced load. If you only treat the compensating area, you may feel better for a short time, but the pain will usually return again and again. In such cases, the trick is to find the actual cause.

Finding the root, balancing the nervous system

A sound diagnosis is invaluable, as an imbalance in the overall structure can lead to chronic pain. The nervous system then becomes sensitised and the brain begins to perceive even gentle stimuli as pain. The proper treatment in this case involves a long-term process during which your body and nervous system are gradually desensitised. A lot depends on the rhythm of the treatment sessions, as we naturally want to make progress quickly, but at the same time must avoid overloading your body.

As chronic pain is complex and usually requires a customised treatment approach, we encourage you to reach out to us to discuss how we can best help you. We will provide you with all the necessary information and draw up a personalised treatment plan. Only by removing the causes present in your everyday life and treating the affected area well and effectively can you eliminate the pain permanently and fully restore your quality of life.
